Azrael, Demon of the Abyss

This is the first painting in a series I'm working on called "Hellverse." It's my own personal project that I hope to have done by this summer. This is one of the main characters in a series of novels I'm working on. I tried combing classical Biblical descriptions of demonic beings (Wings, tail, horns) along with Eastern depictions (mouth of an Oni, protruded teeth, black hair) and created a creature with a dark grey skin tone and black eyes that looks like it lives in a dimension of black liquid smoke. The influence comes from taking different aspects of all religious descriptions of demonic beings and combining them into one common ancestor. Something simple but memorable and recognizable.
